How important is crafting to You in an MMO?

When I created the first batch of Adamant armor for myself along with my friend Brad during the time we played Runescape Gold as teenagers and the feeling of achievement I felt was something that I'm not sure I've recreated in any game ever since. It was quite a challenge because I had short time (had shared a computer along with my younger brother) to be able to grind to build this armor, and making it was a feat which got me hooked to crafting during my early MMO times.

I'd be creating Law Runes and running resource runs to create armor to offer to new players as I discovered them. As The Lord of the Rings Online was released and I decided to shift my MMO time to Middle-earth I became engrossed in making there as well as a GM Woodworker prior to Mines of Moria released (a feat for someone who began to dislike resource grinds back that point).

Now however, and crafting is among the mechanics that are least used in Buy OSRS Accounts for me. I've played it in EVE both before and after the changes in the industry, and have had a hard time with it. The Lord of the Rings Online's crafting became a bit boring because it's remained almost unchanged since its launch in 2007. Even games such as New World couldn't keep my attention, aside from occasional cooking, and crafting was crucial to the handful of quests available within the MMO.

It has me wondering what has changed. Was it my realization that the fact that my time in game would be better spent at the very least, to me, completing the story or grinding out quests versus creating a new item? A part of it could be to be due to the fact that my friends and guild members will always make their crafting skills peak quickly and it was easy to turn to them for high-end items. From a business perspective I've never considered myself a good trader, and therefore making profit from Auction House Auction House through crafted goods wasn't a top priority.

I'm not sure what to say, but I'm sure I haven't found anything that really interested me from the beginning. I'm feeling much more fulfilled today by finishing a story I've put off or clearing the task list. And finally getting through that quest I've been struggling with. Crafting hasn't been my passion since my first days.

It's got me thinking about what the importance of crafting is to the average MMO player. Are you able to use it as a feature that you enter an MMO particularly interested in or is it an additional mechanic that you'll use when you're bored? Are you like me, and tend to do not bother with it unless the MMO demands it (enter New World)? Tell us about it via the comment section.
